Supervision & Consultation Groups
A Practice Consultation Group
For more than twenty years, I have been offering ongoing consultative training experiences for mental health practitioners in the Washington, DC area. During this time, I have had the wonderful opportunity to assist many local and experienced psychotherapists in the development of solid, thriving practices.
I am writing to you because I am currently looking to start another practice management consultation group this coming June. I am looking to invite 6-8 psychotherapists into this ongoing process group. My orientation to clinical and practice supervision is geared towards progressing beyond survival and into building a satisfying private practice. The goals are to do better work and enjoy your practice more, while building a practice tailored to your own wishes.
After more than 30 years of providing Psychotherapy to individuals, groups and couples in Washington DC, and two decades of practice consultation throughout the United States, I have identified some core understandings that impact a psychotherapist’s capacity to thrive:
- Our practice is a manifestation of our characters for better and for worse. Counter-transference issues require consistent attention. The opportunity to utilize both positive and negative reactions to our clients is critically important to staying alive in the work, as well as offering quality psychotherapy.
- Our relationship to money and its’ complications impact our ability to build and manage our practices. Additionally, one’s training as helpers and caretakers may inhibit our ability to prioritize our needs and good self-care. Reconciling these elements is vital to developing a for-profit business.
- The person of the therapist is our main instrument in the workplace and is consistently undervalued and neglected in large and small ways. Having fun/joy/fulfillment in our work and providing quality care are mutually supportive concepts.
This professional consultation group is based upon delving into these elements, personally and interpersonally. Your capacity to assemble the practice of your dreams is enhanced by your ability to provide better treatment while sustaining your energy in the consultation room and beyond. My group work is interactive and process based. My theoretical orientation is Humanistic-Existential and Experiential, hinging on the healing power of the therapeutic relationship.
If you are interested in joining this intensive practice consultation group, please contact me to set up an initial individual meeting. I will also be conducting an introductory 6 hour group on Saturday, May 7th in my office. These preliminary experiences are designed to help us determine if my group would be a good fit for you. I look forward to discussing the process of the group in greater depth with you via an initial session or in the introductory group seminar.
